Yesterday, we went to Blackfoot to visit friends (Thanks again Lorenz and Kari! Tristan is precious!!). They have a Chocolate Lab who Wrigley loves playing with. So we brought him with us and tied the two goofballs together in the unfenced yard. Periodically, the boys went out to check on the dogs. Everything was fine each time they checked.
It came time to leave, and when we got outside we discovered that Wrigley had gotten off his collar. We have no idea how or why he got loose, but luckily he stayed in the yard. We got him in the truck and headed home. Wrigley always falls asleep when we drive on the Interstate, and it was no different this trip.
When we got home, we gave Wrigley a quick bath. He was not too dirty, but with his white coat he looked filthy. As we were soaping him up, I noticed he had blood on his back leg. Looking closer at it made my stomach turn. He had some scratches and two deep holes in his skin. His ankle was also swollen to the size of a golf ball. He was walking fine on it, so we knew nothing was broken. We think he got tangled up in the rope they were tied to.
We finished bathing him, called my mom for doggie first aid advice, and ended up bandaging him with some Neosporin and an Ace bandage. We also put ice on his ankle for a while before we went to bed.
This morning, we checked on him right away. Apparently, I had wrapped the bandage too tight because his foot was almost the size of my fist! Oops! We quickly unwrapped his leg and began applying ice to his foot. The wounds looked much better and had quit oozing. We redressed his cuts and left him locked in his cage while we went to church - we didn't want him walking on it while we were gone. I checked on him once during church, and by the time we got home afterward the swelling in his foot had moved back to his ankle...so at least it was in the wounded area again!
We've had to put away all of his toys because his spirits have not been beaten. We feel bad not letting him have anything to do but lay down or walk around aimlessly, but we feel worse when he brings us a toy to throw and we have to tell him no. What are we going to do when we have kids?!

Oh, poor Wrigley. Hope he gets feeling better soon!
Oh Wrigley! I am glad that you were able to take care of him. Poor dog.
:( Sad! I hope he's ok now! He's such a good sport with all of Charlie's crazed antics but an injury?!? We'll have to make sure there's no cord next time. Poor doggy.
